Dr. Mahendra Joshi, Asstt. Prof. in Civil Eng. Dept. of BBS College Of Engineering and Technology, Allahabad has been recognized by International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, England among the top 100 professionals of the world for the year 2009.He is awarded PhD. for his significant work in 'Energy Efficient Buildings', by Devi Ahilya University, Indore .
According to his thesis the amount of daylight available outdoors is about 100,000 lumens/m2 (the term lumen refers to the flow of light) and the amount of daylight required for office work is only 500 lumens/m2. Therefore, by proper building onientation, percentage of window area to that of the wall area, with the ratio of width to height of the window the optimum amount of daylight can be retrieved inside the buildings.
The study is a step towards predicting the illuminance in buildings in India and also designing different daylighting schemes for a specific interior illumination . Energy efficient buildings are the buildings that utilize the onsite energy, natural energy flows, solar energy and daylighting for their operation. The work focuses on the optimized use of daylight and thermal gain.
Under the provision of Energy Conservation Act 2001 passed by the Parliament, empowers the Central Government to prescribe Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) passed on May 2007 which ensures the construction of energy efficient buildings with reduction in electrical demand .At present the Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) is proposed for adoption on voluntary basis and it is in the process of being mandatory.
The PhD. thesis of Dr.Mahendra Joshi of BBS College of Engineering and Technology, covers all the aspects of efficient usage of daylight design of buildings and also the formulated thums rules will help the municipal corporations to frame By-Laws for the construction of energy efficient buildings in future.
The Chairman of BBS Group of Institutions Mr. R.P. Singh, (Vice-Chairman) Mr. Dilip Singh, (member) Mr. Kuldeep Singh , (Secretary) Mr. Shekhar Singh, (Director General)Dr. S.B.L.
